Overview

IBM Z® Integration for Observability delivers data integration and user interfaces for clients with stand-alone OMEGAMON® agents.

IBM Z Integration for Observability includes the following products and components:
IBM Z Automation Web Console 1.2 (previously Service Management Unite)
IBM Z Automation Web Console is a dashboard to bring mainframe management information and tasks from disparate sources into a single environment.

IBM Tivoli® Management Services for z/OS® 6.4
OMEGAMON products use the Tivoli Management Services on z/OS infrastructure, which provides security, data transfer and storage, notification mechanisms, user interface presentation, and communication services for products in an agent/server/client architecture. The infrastructure includes the following key components:
  • Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server
  • IBM Z OMEGAMON Web UI 2.1
  • The OMEGAMON Enhanced 3270 user interface
  • Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server and clients
  • Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Agents
IBM OMEGAMON Data Requester 2.1

IBM OMEGAMON Data Requester 2.1 is a component of IBM Tivoli Management Services for z/OS 6.4 that provides the framework for the Grafana-based IBM Z OMEGAMON user interface. It includes:

  • Prebuilt dashboards offering enterprise-wide views of IBM Z OMEGAMON agent data.
  • A plugin to retrieve data from the IBM Z OMEGAMON REST API.
  • A query editor optimized for OMEGAMON, allowing users to build custom Grafana dashboards.

The query editor also supports the migration of existing Enhanced 3270UI (e3270UI) and Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) dashboards to Grafana, helping users transition their custom views efficiently.

IBM Z® ChatOps 1.1.5

IBM Z ChatOps provides ChatOps capabilities for your IBM Z environment. It includes a chatbot that gives users access to the information from Z systems management tools such as IBM Z System Automation and IBM OMEGAMON within popular collaboration platforms like Slack. IBM Z ChatOps can be used to notify the operations team in the chat tool about IBM Z events, including recommendations that are powered by machine learning, to help isolate and resolve problems quickly. IBM Z ChatOps leverages and integrates with IBM Z Automation Web Console for a broad access to IBM Z operations data. This also enables chat users to drill-down from the chatbot output to web-based dashboards with more information to help resolve problems fast.

IBM Z Common Data Provider 5.1 with Apache Kafka
IBM Z Common Data Provider with Apache Kafka enables clients to collect and stream IBM zSystems operational data to one or more analytics platforms. The use of Kafka provides a data ecosystem where clients are able to collect data once and have that data used by multiple solutions or streamed off platform to one or more observability or analytics solutions. The Kafka infrastructure can also be leveraged to integrate data from OMEGAMON Data Provider as an additional source of critical operational data.

IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor 5.6.0
IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor displays performance information from a variety of sources, including OMEGAMON monitors and third-party software, in a single location. It delivers near real-time and historical information and operating system and key subsystem performance. You can use a single-screen view of all situation alerts to rapidly identify the root-cause of complex issues involving multiple subsystems. IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor includes IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider and IBM RMF Operational Analytics:
  • IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider makes OMEGAMON attributes available to applications and analytics platforms outside of OMEGAMON. OMEGAMON attributes are the metrics that OMEGAMON monitoring agents collect about the performance, behavior, and resource usage of systems and applications on z/OS. IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider extends the existing OMEGAMON attribute collection process by introducing output methods that you can use in addition to, or instead of, the OMEGAMON persistent data store (PDS):
    • JSON Lines over TCP. Example use: ingestion by analytics platforms such as Splunk and the Elastic Stack.
    • Prometheus endpoint. Example use: Grafana dashboards.
    • JSON in Apache Kafka topics. Example use: any Kafka consumer.
IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider publishes attributes as they are collected. The data frequency is determined by your choice of attribute collection interval, from 1 minute to 1 day. IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider currently supports attributes from only one monitoring agent, IBM Z OMEGAMON Monitor for z/OS. However, IBM Z OMEGAMON Data Provider is designed to be extended to support other agents.
  • IBM RMF Operational Analytics, also known as RMF OA, allows you to monitor the activity of your z/OS environment from a workstation through a modern and intuitive interface. RMF OA takes its input data from the Distributed Data Server (DDS) and provides sample dashboards and visualizations on the most used and expected Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The information displayed is a subset of all the data collected from RMF™ reports. The contents of each collected RMF report is stored in a corresponding Elasticsearch index. These indexes allow the creation of archived data that is available indefinitely for data analytics purposes. From the sample dashboards and visualizations provided, you can define your own customized KPIs fitted to your environment. The Elasticsearch data structure and visualizations may change over time to provide a migration path to IBM Z Common Data Provider.

IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service
IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service is a containerized component that creates rapid and graphical analysis to discover the relationships among zSystems resources. It is used for understanding resources that run on zSystems and provides a standard graphical API for resource dependencies. The API can be consumed by various product services that provide visualization of dependencies and relationships, flows between resources, and impacts of changes. The consumers that make use of the graphical API of IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service include IBM Wazi Analyze in the IBM Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence for IBM Z, IBM Cloud Pak® for Watson™ AIOps, and IBM Z Anomaly Analytics.

To ensure optimal functionality of IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service version 1.4.0 and later, ensure that you are using the Z Operational Analytics common Fix Pack Version 20. Upgrading to Fix Pack Version 22 is not recommended.

IBM Z Resource Discovery Visualization Service
IBM Z Resource Discovery Visualization Service component is a React UI Component that primarily provides network-style graphs. Consumers of ZVS can import ZVS as a node library and configure ZVS through its interface. You can feed data to the component by implementing and registering a data provider.

The above-mentioned programs are also available on an individual basis in addition to the IBM Z Integration for Observability, except for:
  • IBM Z Automation Web Console
  • IBM Z Common Data Provider 5.1 with Apache Kafka
  • IBM Z OMEGAMON Integration Monitor 5.6.0
  • IBM Z Resource Discovery Data Service 1.4
