Prerequisites for scalable building blocks

Before the FlashSystem™ V840 is set up, the customer is responsible for preparing the site and the basic infrastructure.

Customer activities include site equipment planning and installation of any equipment required.

Note: Fixed building block prerequisites also apply to scalable building blocks.

Providing the necessary components
Customers are responsible for providing the necessary components for the scaled-out system.
Providing the main power feeds
Customers are responsible for providing the main power feeds in the environment for the scaled out system.
Installing the rack
Customers are responsible for installing the rack in the environment for the scaled out system.
Installing the power distribution units and power cables
Customers are responsible for installing the power distribution units (PDUs) and power cables.
Installing an optional host patch panel
Customers are responsible for installing an optional host patch panel in the specified rack location.
Optionally installing a console or workstation
Customers are responsible for installing an optional console or workstation to manage the scaled system.
Completing the planning worksheets
Customers are responsible for completing the planning worksheets for the service support representative (SSR).
Verifying host settings
Customers are responsible for verifying host settings.
Optimizing the performance of the scaled system
Customers are responsible for optimizing the performance of the scaled system, with guidance from IBM®, after measuring host I/O and GB/s performance.
Maintaining thorough documentation
Customers are responsible for maintaining thorough documentation of the scaled system.
Managing the scaled system
Customers are responsible for managing the scaled system.
