Configuring SNMP

Use the SNMP page for the Network IPS appliance to configure SNMP and SNMP informs and traps.

1. Configure the following options:

   Option	Description
   System Location	Lists the system location.
   Contact Information	Lists the contact information.
   System Name	Lists the system name.

2. Enable SNMP Notifications, if applicable.
3. Enter the maximum amount of time the appliance waits for a response before it sends the SNMP inform again in Inform Timeout.
4. In the SNMP Notifications area, click the Add icon to add SNMP notifications information, if applicable:

   Option	Description
   SNMP Manager	Specifies the IPv4 or IPv6 address or the host name of the SNMP system that receives the notifications.
   Notification Port Number	Specifies the port number that the SNMP manager monitors for notifications (traps and informs). The default number is port 162.
   SNMP Version	Specifies the SNMP version.
   SNMPv1/SNMPv2c Community String	Specifies the text string password for SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c systems.
   SNMPv3 Settings: Notification Type	Specifies whether the notification is a trap or an SNMP inform: Trap: Specifies SNMPv3 traps for notifications. Select a Trap User Name from the list. Note: Enter the options for this selection in the SNMPv3 Local Users area. Inform: Specifies SNMPv3 informs for notifications. Enter an Inform User Name. Inform users are defined on a remote SNMP manager, not in the SNMPv3 Local Users area. (Optional) Enter a Manager's EngineID. This number specifies the engine that receives notifications and that has the authority to control the flow of information. Note: This field is optional. If not specified, the appliance attempts to contact the SNMPv3 manager engine to retrieve the ID.
   SNMPv3 Settings: Authentication	Specifies whether notifications use authentication: Enable Authentication: Specifies the need for authentication. Password: Specifies and confirms the password that is used to authenticate SNMPv3 notification messages. Note: This password must contain at least eight characters and is case-sensitive. Type: Specifies the HMAC (hash-based message authentication code) algorithm that is used to authenticate SNMPv3 notification messages.
   SNMPv3 Settings: Privacy	Specifies whether notifications use privacy settings: Note: You cannot enable privacy settings unless you enable authentication. Enable Privacy: Specifies whether privacy settings are enabled. Use Authentication Password as Privacy Password: Sets the authentication password as the privacy password. Password: Specifies and confirms the password that is used to encrypt SNMPv3 notification messages. Note: This password needs at least eight characters and is case-sensitive. Type: Specifies the encryption algorithm that is used to encrypt SNMPv3 notification messages.

5. In the SNMP Get area, Enable SNMP Get, if applicable, click the Add icon, and configure the following options:

   Option	Description
   SNMP Version	Specifies the SNMP version.
   SNMPv1/SNMPv2c Community String	Specifies the text string password for SNMPv1 or SNMPv2c systems.
   SNMP Manager	Specifies the IPv4 or IPv6 address or the host name of the manager that the appliance accepts SNMP get/walk requests from.
   SNMPv3 User Name	Specifies an SNMPv3 local user for SNMPv3 get access. Note: Enter the options for this selection in the SNMPv3 Local Users area.

6. In the SNMPv3 Local Users area, click the Add icon and configure the following options:
   Note: SNMPv3 traps and SNMPv3 get requests use SNMPv3 local users that are defined on the appliance. Define users on a remote SNMP manager if you want the appliance to use an SNMP inform.

   Option	Description
   User Name	Specifies local users that communicate with SNMPv3 traps and get requests.
   Enable Authentication	Specifies the need for authentication.
   Authentication Password	Specifies and confirms the password that is used to authenticate SNMPv3 notification messages. Note: This password must contain at least eight characters and is case-sensitive.
   Authentication Type	Specifies the HMAC (hash-based message authentication code) algorithm that is used to authenticate SNMPv3 notification messages.
   Enable Privacy	Specifies whether privacy settings are enabled for SNMPv3. Note: You cannot enable privacy settings unless you enable authentication.
   Use Authentication Password as Privacy Password	Sets the authentication password as the privacy password.
   Privacy Password	Specifies and confirms the password that is used to encrypt SNMPv3 notification messages. Note: This password needs at least eight characters and is case-sensitive.
   Privacy Type	Specifies the algorithm that is used to encrypt SNMPv3 notification messages.
