Internal disk drive sharing on an 5148-21L, 5148-22L, 8247-21L, 8247-22L, 8284-21A, or 8284-22A system

Learn how to split the internal disks in the system or enclosure into groups, which you can manage separately.

PCIe3 x8 SAS RAID internal adapter 6Gb (FC EL3V; CCIN 57D7) is used to split the disk storage backplane in the 8247-21L or 8247-22L system and PCIe3 x8 SAS RAID internal adapter 6Gb (FC EJ0V; CCIN 57D7) is used in the 8284-21A or 8284-22A system to split the disk storage backplane. Installing two FC EL3V or FC EJ0V enables the split mode on the disk backplane. The 12 short-form factor (SFF) disks can be split into 2 sets of 6 SFF disks. The disks can be configured for RAID 0, 10, 5, and 6.
Important: The split disk backplane is not supported with the FC EJ0N disk backplane feature.

For more information on the SAS Subsystem, see SAS subsystem.

For information about installing the FC EL3V or FC EJ0V, see Installing the PCIe3 x8 SAS RAID internal adapter 6 Gb.

Note: The FC EL3V or FC EJ0V must be installed while the system power is turned off.

Partitioning: The split DASD mode can be useful for partitioning. If setting up two distinct logical partitions (LPARs), the resources associated with FC EL3V or FC EJ0V can be assigned to two distinct partitions. To learn about a partitioned environment, see Logical partitioning.

You can now manage the disks as you would manage any other disks.
