Getting the location code for a device by using the resource name in an IBM i partition
Use the resource name of the device to determine the location code for a device in an IBM® i partition.
- Start an IBM i session and sign on.
- Type strsst on the command line of the Main Menu and then press Enter.
- Type your service tools user ID and service tools password on the Start Service Tools (STRSST) Sign On display and then press Enter.
- Select Start a service tool from the System Service Tools (SST) display and then press Enter.
- Select Hardware service manager from the Start a Service Tool display and then press Enter.
- Press F6 (function key 6) to print the configuration. Select 132 characters wide for the format. Select Packaging resources sorted by location for the information printed. This operation places a formatted printer file of the configuration in a spooled printer file that is named QPCSMPRT.
- Exit out of service tools.
- To display the QPCSMPRT spooled printer file, type WRKJOB on the command line.
- Select Work with spooled files from the Work with job display.
- By using the device resource name in the Resource Name column, find the device location code in the Location column. Record the device location code and return to the procedure that sent you here.
