PHP sensor releases
Instana® monitors PHP applications by using the Instana PHP sensor and tracer. The sensor provides insights into the health and performance of PHP applications.

PHP sensor

Release 2.6.14

Release 2.6.13
Instana released PHP sensor 2.6.13 on 3 July 2026.

Release 2.6.12
Instana released PHP sensor 2.6.12 on 22 June 2026.
Features
The PHP sensor passes the stack trace configuration from com.instana.tracing.global section in the agent configuration.yaml to the PHP Tracer.

The PHP sensor now installs PHP Tracer 5.9.0 by default.
Release 2.6.10
Instana released PHP sensor 2.6.10 on 11 June 2026.
Improvements
- The PHP sensor can now monitor PHP runtimes running as systemd services that are hardened using
ProtectSystemdirective. - This release improves non-root agent support.
Fixes
The PHP sensor now delays certain tasks by 30 seconds for Apache on Windows environments. This ensures Apache worker processes are running, allowing the sensor to correctly retrieve Apache and PHP configuration details.
Release 2.6.6

Instana released PHP sensor 2.6.5 on 8 April 2026.

This release fixes an issue where Apache HTTPd failed to correctly parse the Include directive that contained the wildcard character *.
Release 2.6.0
Instana released PHP sensor 2.6.0 on 26 February 2026.

The sensor now supports the span filtering feature by passing the filter rules configured incom.instana.tracing.filter section in the agent configuration.yaml file to the PHP Tracer.

The PHP sensor now supports HTTP endpoint filtering by passing the filter rules configured in com.instana.tracing.filter section in the agent configuration to the PHP Tracer. For more information, see Filtering spans.
Fixes
This release correctly adds the instana.span_filter_config_file INI setting to the main php.ini file when you update the PHP sensor from versions earlier than 2.2.5.
Release 2.4.0
Instana released PHP sensor 2.4.0 on 5 January 2025.

- Supports PHP 8.5 runtime.
- The sensor installs PHP Tracer when it detects the PHP 8.5 runtime.

PHP sensor 2.4.0 provides the following fixes:
- PHP sensor does not override the owner and group permissions of the main
php.inifile when updating PHP Tracer INI settings. - Instana PHP Tracing extension version updates correctly after you install it in the PHP runtime entity for Apache with
mpm_preforkconfiguration.
PHP-CGI sensor

This release fixes an issue where the PHP FPM sensor failed to display FPM metrics in Kubernetes environments that use the CRI-O runtime.

Instana released PHP-FPM sensor 1.4.0 on 26 August 2025.

The sensor now includes a new PHP FPM plug-in configuration that allows you to opt in or opt out of FPM worker pool monitoring for PHP-FPM.
Release 1.3.0
Instana released PHP-FPM sensor 1.3.0 on 30 July 2025.
Improvements
The PHP-FPM sensor now uses the pm.status_listen endpoint to monitor FPM worker pools if you configure the endpoint. This improvement fixes an issue where the FPM idle worker process gets stuck forever and fails to terminate when the PHP-FPM sensor monitors worker pools with the pm FPM configuration set to ondemand.
