Linux KVM sensor releases

Instana monitors the Linux KVM Hypervisor infrastructure by using the Instana Linux KVM sensor. The sensor provides insights into the health and performance of virtual machines and the host infrastructure. For more information, see Monitoring Linux KVM Hypervisor.

Release 1.0.11

Linux KVM Hypervisor Sensor 1.0.11 is released on 9 December 2025.

Improvements

This release Introduces an alternative mechanism for collecting metrics using the shell‑based virsh CLI provided by libvirt. This method is automatically used when the default libvirt‑java library is not supported.

Release 1.0.10

Features

Note:
This release updates the entity ID, which requires an agent restart during upgrade.

This release introduces enhanced performance metrics for collecting data from Linux KVM hypervisor host. For more information see Performance metrics.

Release 1.0.5

Linux KVM sensor 1.0.5 is released on 11 August 2025.

Features

The Linux KVM sensor now collects more detailed metrics for the Linux KVM hosts and virtual machines, including enhanced host metrics, virtual machine metrics, and storage pool metrics for the hypervisor host.

Release 1.0.4

Linux KVM sensor 1.0.4 is the first public version of this sensor released on 10 July 2025.

Features

This initial release of Linux KVM sensor collects basic metrics from the Linux KVM host, including host CPU and memory utilization.
