AOCABLE

The expansion drawer cable that connects a system unit to an EMX0 PCIe3 expansion drawer might be failing.

To determine the location of the expansion drawer cable, complete the following steps:

  1. Is a location code available in the serviceable event view for this failing item?
    • Yes: Go to step 3.
    • No: Continue with the next step.
  2. To determine the location of the failing item, complete the following steps:
    1. Record the Dynamic Reconfiguration Connector (DRC) index, which is word 7 of the B700xxxx reference code.
    2. The DRC index is of the form xxxxyyyy, where yyyy is the hexadecimal bus number. Using the hexadecimal bus number, go to Card positions to find the location of the failing item. Then, continue with the next step.
  3. Does the location that is identified in this procedure have a port location (the location code ends with a Tx label)?
    • Yes: Continue with the next step.
    • No: Go to step 5.
  4. Is there a failing item in the failing item list of the serviceable event that indicates that a failing item should be replaced at the other port location of the same PCIe3 cable adapter?
    • Yes: The cables that are attached to both ports (T1 and T2) must be replaced. Continue with step 6 to replace both cables at the same time.
    • No: Continue with step 6 to replace the cable at the location that is identified in this procedure.
  5. The cables that are attached to both ports (T1 and T2) of the identified failing item must be replaced. Append each of the port labels T1 and T2 to the location identified in this procedure and replace the cables at both locations. Continue with the next step to replace both cables at the same time.
  6. Is the system firmware at level FW860.00, or later?
Note: For instructions about viewing system firmware levels, see Viewing existing firmware levels.
    • Yes: Continue with step 8.
    • No: To determine the part number of the cable, examine the cable. Continue with the next step.
  7. Replace the expansion drawer cables at the locations that were identified in this procedure.

    This ends the procedure.

  8. View PCIe hardware topology.
    • To view PCIe hardware topology by using a management console, go to PCIe Hardware Topology. Then, continue with the next step.
    • To view PCIe hardware topology by using the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI), log in to ASMI. In the navigation area, expand System Configuration and click PCIe Hardware Topology. Then, continue with the next step.
  9. Select the link with a Local Port Location or Remote Port Location that matches the ports of the cable to be replaced and click Cable Attributes. Record the part number that is displayed. Then, continue with the next step.
  10. Replace the expansion drawer cables at the locations that were identified in this procedure.

    This ends the procedure.
