Putting your IBM® SAS
RAID controller's cache battery pack into an error state ensures
that write caching is stopped prior to replacing a cache battery pack.
The error state requires replacement of the battery.
Make sure that you have the correct type and quantity of cache
battery packs for the replacement. You must replace the cache battery
pack before you can resume normal operations.
Forcing the battery error has the following results:
- The system logs an error.
- Data caching becomes disabled on the selected controller.
- System performance could become significantly degraded until the
cache battery pack is replaced on the selected controller.
Perform the following steps to force the battery error:
- Run the iprconfig utility by typing iprconfig.
- Select Work with disk unit recovery.
- Select Work with resources containing cache battery
packs.
- Select your adapter and type 2;
then, press Enter. This forces the battery error.
Attention: Perform this procedure only under the guidance of IBM hardware service support. This
procedure poses serious risks to performance until the battery pack
is replaced.
- To force a battery error, type c to
confirm. If you do not want to force a battery error, type q to
cancel.
