Evaluating the concurrency limit of a workload

You can use the concurrency high water marks and the concurrency limit metrics to evaluate whether the concurrency limit of a workload is appropriate.

About this task

The concurrency high water marks are plotted over time so that each point represents the high water mark for a specific collection interval. The concurrency limit specifies the maximum number of concurrent activities that the service superclass associated with the workload can run. Use the charts on the Service Superclasses page of the Workload Manager Configuration dashboard in the database performance monitor to determine whether the concurrency limit of the associated workload is appropriate.

Procedure

  1. On the Service Superclasses page, click Show charts.
  2. Click the Concurrency and CPU Usage tab.
  3. Define the time period that you want to evaluate.
  4. Select the check box next to the service superclass that you want to analyze.
  5. Plot the concurrency high water marks by selecting the High water mark check box.
  6. Plot the concurrency limit by selecting the Concurrency limit check box.
  7. Compare the two graphs.

Results

The concurrency limit of the workload is appropriate if the concurrency high water mark graph is close to the concurrency limit graph throughout the specified time period.
