Cloud storage locations
A cloud storage location is a BRMS storage location that is associated with a IBM® Cloud Storage Solutions for i cloud resource.
Storage locations are used in BRMS to indicate where media is located, including cloud-based storage. BRMS creates a storage location for each cloud resource on the system using the same name. Cloud storage locations and storage locations appear the same to BRMS. Cloud storage locations may be thought of as a storage location that stores and manages virtual media transfers associated only with created cloud resources.
A difference between storage locations and cloud storage locations in BRMS is in the descriptions of movement and transfer in the concepts section of this chapter. Movement of an object with BRMS specifies that the media changes from one BRMS storage location to another. This is a logical movement, reflected only in the BRMS database; the media itself may not have changed physical location. Transfer refers to a actual change in location. When BRMS moves virtual media to a cloud storage location, the media actually transfers to the cloud space. Likewise, whenever media moves from a cloud storage location, a copy of the media is transferred back to the system.
