IBM® Device Runtime Environment is a software program that provides a runtime environment and integrated middleware components for extending many browser and web container based enterprise applications to server-managed laptop computers and desktop systems. It provides a client-side, services-oriented framework that can enable applications to run locally. It also provides client management services that can be used by network and system administrators to deploy, maintain, update, and even remove software from end-user machines, with minimal end-user intervention.

After installation completes, you can run the Device Runtime Environment using the following command from the < install location>/rcp directory.

Install the DRE using either the Install/Update UI or using the provisioning manifest. The Install/Update UI is useful for installing a DRE into only one runtime, but for automation purposes, you should consider using the provisioning manifest.

To perform a more automated installation of the DRE, you can either customize the provisioning manifest for install, or use the Provisioning Application to install the DRE using the provisioning manifest.
