Tivoli Management Services components

The OMEGAMON suite of products uses the Tivoli® Management Services infrastructure, which provides security, data transfer and storage, notification mechanisms, user interface presentation, and communication services for products in the IBM® Tivoli Monitoring and IBM OMEGAMON suites.

Figure 1 shows a simple topology of the various principal components that form the Tivoli Management Services and OMEGAMON monitoring infrastructure, and how they interact with each other.

Note: Not all the Tivoli Management Services and OMEGAMON components in Figure 1 are required for all customer environments. For example, you do not have to have a Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server installed in your environment to run OMEGAMON on z/OS® and use the OMEGAMON® enhanced 3270 user interface to view data. However, if you enable the self-describing agent feature provided by Tivoli Management Services, the Tivoli Enterprise Services user interface extension is required to control the administration of the self-describing agent feature. This component provides the tacmd command-line utility to interact with a monitoring server. This component is available on the IBM Tivoli Monitoring DVD image that is referenced in the IBM OMEGAMON Monitoring Agents on z/OS Quick Start Guide.
