IBM BPM version 8570 cumulative fix 2017.06Determining artifact usage

When you work with an artifact in the web Process Designer, it is useful to know where the artifact is used so that you can see the impact of potential changes that you want to make. For example, before you change a business object in a process application, you can see the processes and services in that process application that use the business object. Use the web Process Designer References feature to view the artifacts in the current process application that use a particular library item and also the artifacts that the library item uses.

Procedure

To see where an artifact is used:

  1. In the web Process Designer, open your process application.
  2. Open the library item.
  3. In the upper-left corner, next to the editor selector, click the References icon.
The image shows the References icon in the group of icons near the editor selector.
You can open artifacts in the list to view their details or to edit them.
    • The Referenced By list shows you all the artifacts in the current process application that use the library item. You can then quickly open these artifacts to consistently apply related changes across multiple items.
    • The References list shows all the artifacts that the library item uses in the current process application.

If the artifact can be edited only in the desktop Process Designer, for example, a business process definition, you can open it from the list only in the read-only mode. To refresh the list with the latest changes, save the changes, and click the Refresh icon The image shows the Refresh icon at the top of the References panel.. The data is refreshed when the changes are detected, which might take a few seconds. Therefore, if you don't see the updates at first, you might have to refresh again.
