Upgrading
The Maximo® Real Estate and Facilities application consists of two main components, the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform and the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application. They can be updated independently and have different update mechanisms.
Upgrading the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform
The Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform is upgraded in the IBM® Maximo Application Suite Red Hat OpenShift operator channel. You upgrade or patch Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform by deploying a later version of the Red Hat OpenShift Platform operator, see Updating Maximo Real Estate and Facilities.
For more information about upgrading IBM Maximo Application Suite, see Upgrading IBM Maximo Application Suite.
Deploying the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform operator does not overwrite the current version of the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application.
- A new deployment of the operator installs the version of Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application that is packaged with the operator. For example, installing Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform 9.1 installs Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application 9.1.
- Subsequent deployments of the operator detect that Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application is installed and installs only the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Platform. You can then use OM packages to upgrade the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application.
Upgrading the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application
The Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application is upgraded by applying Object Migration packages in Maximo Real Estate and Facilities.
Object Migration packages update application objects such as business objects, forms, and workflows. Always do application updates as part of a controlled and tested upgrade process in development environments.
-
Upgrade to new versions by downloading the software from IBM Passport Advantage and applying the OM package.
-
Apply Maximo Real Estate and Facilities Application fix packs by downloading the fix pack software from IBM Fix Central and applying the OM package.
For more information, see Upgrading the IBM Maximo Real Estate and Facilities application.
Data recovery and backups
Before you start an upgrade, create a data recovery plan for the database in case of a Maximo Real Estate and Facilities system failure. Maximo Real Estate and Facilities is a Java™ enterprise application that runs on a variety of database platforms. Each database platform provides different methods and recommendations for backups and recovery. For database backup and recovery operation standards and best practices, see the documentation from your database provider.
Back up the Maximo Real Estate and Facilities database before you start an upgrade. Stage all upgrades in a test environment and complete thorough reviews before you upgrade any production environment.
