To rename the Normal.dot template, complete the

- Click Start > Run.
- Enter %appdata%, and click OK to
open the Application Data folder.
- Open the Microsoft > Templates
folder.
- Ensure that the winword.exe process is not running in the
Task Manager.
- Rename the Normal.dot file to
Normalold.dot.
Warning: Do not delete the Normal.dot file. If
deleted, the changes are irreversible.
Results
When you open a Word document after you have renamed the
Normal.dot template, a new
Normal.dot file
is automatically generated.
