Installing a stand-alone server

You might need to install a stand-alone server. Use this procedure to perform this task.

To install a stand-alone server, complete the following high level tasks:

Check the prerequisites. For instructions, see Prerequisites for installing the system.
Perform the inventory. For instructions, see Before you begin.
Remove the shipping bracket on the rear left of the system that protects the power supplies. This shipping bracket is not needed for system installation. Ensure you have reseated the power supplies. To remove the shipping bracket, complete the following:
  1. Remove the screws.
  2. Pull the power supplies out slightly so that you can remove the shipping bracket.
  3. Reseat the power supplies.
  4. If expansion units are present, remove the shipping brackets that cover the power supplies.

Install and connect your expansion unit, disk drives, and PCI adapters, if applicable.
Notes:
  • Consult your project manager or read the system plans before moving or installing any disk drives and PCI adapters.
  • Do not power on your system. You will be instructed to power on the system when you set up the console.

Cable the server with keyboard, video, and mouse.

Cable the system and set up a console, interface, or terminal. For instructions, see Cabling the server and setting up the console.
Connect the power cables and apply power. For instructions, see Connecting the power cables to the system.
Complete the server setup. For instructions, see Completing the server setup.

Install the front cover and front door as an assembly, if required.

To install the front cover and front door as an assembly, complete the following steps:
  1. Open the door.
  2. Align the two pins at the bottom to the slots in the tip plate.
  3. Push it in the direction of arrow (toward the chassis) until the latch snap into a slot in the chassis just above the operation panel.
  4. Close the door.

Install the front door, if required. To install the front door, complete the following steps:
  1. Hold the front door at an approximate 120 degree angle to the system as shown in the figure.
  2. Follow the direction of the arrow as shown in the figure to attach the door.
  3. Close the door.

To remove the front door, compete the following steps:

  1. Open the front door by grasping the door handle and pulling the door at approximately a 120 degree angle to the system.
  2. Pull the door away from the cover.
