Managing invitations

To enable communication between two agents, one agent must create and share an invitation with the other. The agent that creates the invitation is known as the inviter, while the receiving agent is the invitee.

To facilitate this process, ensure that each user in your IBM® Verify instance has their own agent.

In this example, the users are referred to as user1 and issuer1. Each user must obtain an access token to authenticate the agent to perform the operation.

The method of sharing the invitation (for example, email, QR code, and so on) is not defined in IBM Verify. This invitation is referred as an out of band invitation invitation because the invitation message does not travel over a DID communication channel but through an undefined out-of-band communication medium.

Types of invitations

Similar to how we receive various types of invitations in the mail (for example, wedding invitations, invitations to receive a credit card, and so on), there are different invitation types within IBM Verify.

• connection invitation - An invitation to establish a connection without a specific intent.

• issuance invitation - An invitation to initiate an issuance interaction, with an optional request to connect first.

• verification invitation - An invitation to start a verification interaction, also with an optional request to connect first.
