Removing the 8202-E4B, 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6B, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D control panel with the power off

Use this procedure to remove the control panel on the server with the power off.

If your system is managed by the IBM® Systems Director Management Console (SDMC), use the SDMC to remove the control panel from the server. For instructions, see Removing a part by using the SDMC. If you do not have an SDMC, complete this procedure to remove a control panel.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to remove a control panel from the server. For information about using the HMC to remove a control panel, see Removing a part using the HMC. If you do not have an HMC, complete this procedure to remove a control panel.
Note: Check the display on your control panel to see if your system is managed by the HMC. If you do not see HMC displayed, your system has not ever been connected to the HMC. A display of HMC=0 indicates that your system does not currently have the HMC. If the HMC display equals a number greater than 0, your system has the HMC.

To remove the control panel with the power off, complete the following procedure:

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks as described in Before you begin.
  2. Stop the system. For instructions, see Stopping a system or logical partition.
  3. Remove the front cover:
  4. Disconnect the power source from the system by unplugging the system, as described in Disconnecting the power cords.
Note: An optional power supply is available in the 8202-E4B, 8202-E4C, or 8202-E4D server. The 8205-E6B, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D server is equipped with a mandatory second power supply if two processor modules are installed. Before continuing with this procedure, ensure that all power to your system has been completely disconnected.

  5. Attach the wrist strap.
    Attention:
    • Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD) from damaging your hardware.
    • When using a wrist strap, follow all electrical safety procedures. A wrist strap is for static control. It does not increase or decrease your risk of receiving electric shock when using or working on electrical equipment.
    • If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
  6. Unlock the control panel by sliding the release latch (A) in the direction of its arrow, and pull the control panel out of the system, as shown in the following figure. Remove the control panel by pressing the locking tabs (C) located on either side of the panel, grasping the edges of the panel, and pulling the panel out of its bay.

  7. Disconnect the control-panel signal cable (B) and its related USB cable from the back of the control panel.
Attention: After the cables have been disconnected from the back of the control panel, avoid pulling on the cables. Doing so could pull them loose from the inside of the system or damage the system board.
Next, replace the control panel with the power off. For instructions, see Replacing the 8202-E4B, 8202-E4C, 8202-E4D, 8205-E6B, 8205-E6C, or 8205-E6D control panel with the power off.
