Entering the activation code for Active Memory Expansion
You can enable Active Memory™ Expansion for a server by entering an activation code on the Hardware Management Console (HMC). When you enable Active Memory Expansion, you can configure the logical partitions that run on the server to compress their memory and thus expand their memory capacities.
Before you start, complete the following prerequisite tasks:
- Complete the required preparation tasks for Active Memory Expansion and ensure that your configuration meets the configuration requirements for Active Memory Expansion. For instructions, see Preparing to configure Active Memory Expansion.
- Verify that you have an activation code. You can obtain an activation
code from your IBM® Sales Representative
or the Capacity on Demand Web site. To obtain an activation code from
the Capacity on Demand Web site, complete the following steps:
- Go to: http://www-912.ibm.com/pod/pod.
- Enter the system type and serial number of the server for which you need the activation code.
- Record the activation code that is displayed on the Web site.
To enter the activation code for Active Memory Expansion, complete the
following steps by using the HMC:
- In the navigation pane, open Systems Management and click Servers.
- In the contents pane, select the server on which you plan to use Active Memory Expansion.
- From the Tasks menu, select . The Enter Activated Code window is displayed.
- Enter the activation code and click OK.
- From the Tasks menu, click Properties. The server Properties window is displayed.
- Click the Capabilities tab.
- Verify that the Active Memory Expansion Capable capability is now set to True. If the capability is set to False, then Active Memory Expansion is not enabled on the server. Obtain a valid activation code to enable Active Memory Expansion on the server.
- Click OK.
