IBM PureData System for Analytics, Version 7.1

The unpack script

You use the unpack script to extract the contents of the software package file into a new, empty directory on the IBM® Netezza® system. The unpack script does not modify or replace any existing Netezza software files. The script also does not change the running version of the software. Make sure that you change (cd) to the directory where the script is stored to run it.

The script has the following syntax:
./unpack [-f] [unpack_directory]

The -f argument unpacks the software to the default installation directory, which is /nz, and uses the default value for any prompts.

The unpack_directory argument specifies the installation directory. The location that you specify must be in the shared partitions (/nz or /export/home).

The unpack script creates the following kit directory in the installation directory:
kit.release

The release value typically has four digits separated by periods such as 7.1.0.0 or 7.1.0.1. Older Netezza releases used a different version numbering with two or three digits.

Note: If a kit.release directory exists in the installation directory, the unpack script creates a kit.release.build directory, where build is a unique build number for the software. If the build number does not make the directory name unique, the unpack script adds another unique value, such as .1, to create a unique directory name.

The unpack script checks to confirm that the upgrade package can be used on the current Netezza system. For example, it confirms that there is sufficient disk space in the specified unpack location and that the current host operating system and Netezza release support upgrades to the kit that you are installing.
