Les types pthread_attr_t, pthread_cond_t, pthread_condattr_t, pthread_key_t, pthread_mutex_t, pthread_mutexattr_t, pthread_once_t, pthread_rwlock_t, pthread_rwlockattr_tet pthread_t sont définis comme décrit dans sys/types.h.

Les éléments suivants sont déclarés en tant que fonctions et peuvent également être déclarés en tant que macros. Des prototypes de fonction doivent être fournis pour une utilisation avec un compilateur ISO C.
