Prerequisites

The following prerequisites must be met before you start the sapinst tool to install the SAP system:

  • Use unique instance numbers for each instance that you install on a single host for an SAP System ID (SID). The SAP installation does not work if you do not use unique instance numbers.
  • The SAP system ID (SID) and the instance number of SAP NetWeaver must be the same on all cluster nodes.
  • Create a separate directory for each component that you want to install for saving installation log files and trace files. You must switch to the installation directory for that component before you start the sapinst tool.
  • Ensure that you configure the Linux automounter daemon on all the nodes to connect to the NFS server and to automatically mount the default SAP directory, /sapmnt.
  • Register permanent entries for the virtual host names either in the DNS server or in the /etc/hosts file on all nodes.
  • Ensure that the network interfaces that you want to use have the same name on each SAP system. For each virtual IP address that is defined in the high availability policy, an equivalency of network interface is created. Only those network interfaces that have the same name on each node can be part of an equivalency. An equivalency is a group of resources that provide the same function. For example, when network interfaces are defined as equivalencies, if one network interface is offline, another network interface with the same name takes over.
  • The SAP instance directory /usr/sap/<sapsid>/<instancename> must be present in the local file system.

  • The directory /usr/sap/trans must be located on the shared file system.
