Installing a high availability SAP system

You can install the mandatory and optional SAP system components on the nodes where you want to provide high availability of SAP Netweaver by using the sapinst tool.

To install SAP system components on a node, perform the following steps:

  1. Activate all virtual IP addresses that correspond to the virtual host names before you start the installation process.
  2. Use the sapinst tool to install the following components with the installation option SAP Systems > High-Availability System. For some installation tasks, you must start the sapinst tool with a virtual host name.
    • Central Services Instance for ABAP (ASCS) or Central Services Instance for Java™ (SCS)
    • Enqueue Replication Server instance (ERS) for ASCS or Enqueue Replication Server instance for SCS
    • Database instance
    • Primary application server instance on one node of the cluster
    • Additional application server instance on other nodes of the cluster
    • Web Dispatcher instance (optional)
    • SAP router (optional)
  3. Remove all the virtual IP addresses that are activated.
    Note: If you do not remove the virtual IP addresses after the installation and complete the initial manual testing, you might experience incorrect behavior of the SAP high availability solution.
