Installing or replacing the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD control panel with the power on

You can install or replace the control panel on the server with the power on.

If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete the steps for installing a control panel. For instructions, see Replacing a part by using the HMC. If you do not have an HMC, complete the following procedure to replace a control panel.

Prerequisites

To replace a control panel with the system power on, you must first access the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI). For instructions, see Managing the Advanced System Management Interface.

To install or replace the control panel with the power on, complete the following procedure:

  1. Perform the prerequisite tasks. For instructions, see Before you begin.
  2. If you have not already done so, remove the control panel with the power on. For instructions, see Removing the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD control panel with the power on.
  3. If necessary, remove the new control panel from its packaging.
  4. Install the new control panel, as shown in Figure 1.
    1. With the locking arm fully extended, align the control panel with the control panel bay.
    2. Slide the control panel into the control panel bay.
    3. Move the locking arm (A) to the right, and press in on the latch to lock it in place, as shown in the following figure.

  5. Access the Advanced System Management Interface (ASMI).
  6. In the navigation area of the ASMI, select Concurrent maintenance > Control panel.
  7. At the control panel window, select Install and click Continue.
  8. Choose the control panel location and click Save Settings. If the operation was successful, the window displays Operation completed successfully.
    Note: If a ball or dot appear in the control panel function display (A), toggle between function 02 and function 01 until the ball or dot disappear.

  9. Install the front cover onto your system. For instructions, see Installing the front cover on the 8412-EAD, 9117-MMB, 9117-MMC, 9117-MMD, 9179-MHB, 9179-MHC, or 9179-MHD.
  10. Verify that the control panel is functional. For instructions, see Verifying the installed part.
