PROXMAP es un procedimiento de reducción de la dimensionalidad que construye una representación espacial de baja dimensión de los datos de proximidad (como distancias u otras medidas de disimilitud y similitud) entre objetos (casos). Las proximidades se representan como distancias entre puntos en un espacio de baja dimensión y pueden proporcionarse directamente o calcularse a partir de datos multivariantes.
A diferencia de los métodos de proyección lineal, PROXMAP minimiza la discrepancia entre proximidades y distancias en la solución de baja dimensión. El procedimiento admite modelos de diferencias individuales cuando se dispone de múltiples fuentes de datos.
