XFS file system

The file system selected for the measurements was XFS.

An example of the XFS mkfs command options used is shown in Figure 1.

While XFS does provide raid width and stride adjustments to match the underlying physical disk structure, evaluation during initial setup did not show consistent improvement when these values are adjusted.

Warning: Metadatacyclic redundancy checks (CRCs) and directory entry file types are now enabled by default in xfsprogs-3.2.3. Linux kernels 3.15 contain production support for the new (v5) format. To ensure read/write access to XFS file systems in the event that an older kernel is encountered during measurements, the older format (v4) is selected with the options “-m crc=0 -n ftype=0” on the mkfs command line. Users should follow distribution recommendations for XFS.
