Comparing Versions or Revisions of Contract Language

You can compare the latest version and revision of a contract language to a previous version or revision in the Contract Editor or the Word Editor.

Procedure

To compare versions or revisions of the language of a contract, complete the following steps:

  1. Open a contract in the Contract Editor or Word Editor.
  2. In the Contract Editor, click the Revisions Revisions icon in the Contract Editor icon.
  3. In the Word Editor, click the Revisions Revisions icon in the Word Editor icon.
  4. From the Compare selected revision from drop-down list, select an option.
  5. From the Compare selected revision to drop-down list, select an option.
  6. If you selected the Revision option, specify the revision number.
  7. If you opened the contract in the Word Editor, click Redlines to view the marks for the modified language.

The Compare from revision is listed as the Base revision. The Compare to revision is listed as the Redline revision. Clause language that appears in the base revision but not in the redline revision is highlighted. Contract language that appears in the redline revision but not in the base revision is stricken.

  8. To view both revisions side by side, click Side by Side.

Use the Navigation Options and Difference Options to filter the changes in a side by side comparison.

Tip: A side by side comparison is a plain text comparison. No formatting changes, images, or non-textual data is displayed. All tables are displayed as cells separated by a pipe '|' character. To compare changes to the format, images, and non-textual data, use the Word Editor or download the language and compare it offline.
  9. To download the language for an offline comparison, click Download.

A compressed file that contains both the revisions in the .docx format is generated. The name of the compressed file is Contract Number_Revision1_Revision2.zip. The names of the documents in the compressed file are Revision1.docx and Revision2.docx.

  10. To view the comments for each revision, click View.
  11. To preview and download the revision, click Preview.

You can save any revision of language to an external file and then use Microsoft Word or Workshare DeltaView® to compare them.

  12. Click OK.
