Managing session time out

By default, the session time out value used by IBM® Data Server Manager (DSM) is enabled and set to 7200 seconds (2 hours) of idle time. When the idle time has been exceeded, a message box appears, notifying the user that their web session has timed out. With DSM V2.1.3, you can change the default settings for this value by editing the properties of the dswebserver_override.properties file.

About this task

This value cannot be changed using the DSM console, it can only be changed by manually editing the dswebserver_override.properties file, located within the /Config subfolder of your DSM installation folder.

Procedure

To tell DSM to recognize a custom session time out value:

  1. Navigate to your DSM installation folder, locate and open the /Config folder, and open the dswebserver_override.properties file.
  2. In a text editor, change the dsweb_custom_timeout value equal to true, to enable the customized session time out value.
  3. Change the dsweb_invalidationTimeout value equal to the amount of time you want, in seconds.
  4. Save your changes and close the file.

Results

Once DSM is restarted, the new session time out setting will go into effect.
