The Zoom and Axes views

When you view data in graph format by using the Line plot tab, you can adjust the zoom or axes to view sections of the log in more detail, or to calculate report data for a section of the log. If the Zoom or Axes view is closed, click Views, then click the appropriate view, to open it.

The Zoom view

In the Line plot display, left-click on the graph and drag the mouse to select an area that you want to view in more detail. The graph changes to display this area only. The Zoom view shows the entire graph with the selected area outlined. You can drag this outlined area about the Zoom view to change the selection of data that you are viewing. You can also use the Magnification settings to change the selected area.

In this way, you can focus on sections of the log data. For example, if you have a log file that covers seven days you might want to set the X Axis Zoom Magnification Factor field to 7, so that you see data from only one day at a time.

To revert to viewing the entire graph, double left-click in the Line plot display, left-click in the Line plot display then press Escape, or in the Zoom view click Reset Zoom.

The Zoom view affects only your view of the graph in the Line plot display. The information in the Report tab is unaffected.

The Axes view

In the Axes view, you can change the units displayed on the Line plot graph. You can also change the units by right-clicking the appropriate axis in the Line plot display and clicking Change units.
Note: You cannot change the units if some of the plotted data does not support the new units.

You can also use the Axes view to specify minimum and maximum values for the x-axis. Use these values to control the section of the log that is described in the Report tab.

For example, if your application is most heavily used between 9 am and 5 pm, you might want to change the x-axis units to date, and specify appropriate minimum and maximum x-axis values to restrict the report data to 9-5 on a particular day. The information in the report changes to reflect this selection. In this way you can view recommendations, and values for means, minima, and maxima, for this time period only.

The report displays a warning to indicate that a subset of the data was used to create the report. The graph on the Line plot tab is unaffected, but areas outside the specified x-axis values are shown in gray.

To reset the axes, right-click in the Line plot display and click Reset Axes, or click Reset Axes in the Axes view.
