Viewing a recording

As stated in the Overview section, IBM Z Virtual Test Platform (ZVTP) is composed of three parts: Dynamic Test Runner (for recording and replay), the optional ZVTP Viewer, and the optional Server Extension. The ability, manner, and ease of viewing information captured in a recording file is dependent on which ZVTP parts have been installed:
  • Installing only Dynamic Test Runner limits viewing to the DD:BZUMSG file generated during recording or replay, browsing the DD:BZUPLAY recording file itself, or using the Playback File Dump Utility to format the recording file for viewing. For more information, see Formatting the contents of playback files.
  • Installing the optional ZVTP Viewer provides the additional views of both recordings (test cases) and replays (test case results) in a web browser. However, it requires that additional jobs and DD statements be used during the recording or replay processes. For more information, see Using the optional ZVTP Viewer.
  • Installing the optional Server Extension provides the same views at the ZVTP Viewer with the additional benefits of persisting the test case, test case results, and other artifacts named in the recording file in a relational database. For more information, see Using the optional ZVTP Server Extension.
