SET LOGOFF
Authorization
Privilege Class: C
Purpose
Use the SET LOGOFF command to establish when the user identifiers of virtual machines become available for reuse after they log off the system. A virtual machine can be logged on again when its user identifier is available for reuse.
Operands
- MEMory RELease ASYNCHronous
- makes a virtual machine's user identifier available for reuse immediately before its memory release is initiated. MEMory RELease ASYNCHronous is the default.
- MEMory RELease SYNCHronous
- makes a virtual machine's user identifier available for reuse after its memory release completes.
Usage Notes
- When MEMORY RELEASE ASYNCHRONOUS is in effect, the user identifier of a virtual machine whose memory is being released is translated from uppercase to lowercase and is displayed in responses to INDICATE PAGING, LOCATE VMDBK, and QUERY NAMES commands until the release is complete. During this time, the virtual machine is still consuming memory resources, which could affect existing virtual machines that attempt to reference additional memory or virtual machines that are newly logged on.
- MEMORY RELEASE ASYNCHRONOUS might help reduce delays that are associated with memory release that can prevent logging a virtual machine onto another member of an SSI cluster. Such delays are proportional to the size of the virtual machine's memory.
