More Practice in Adding Lines

The next file you are going to change is the one that lists the ingredients for a picnic. Find that file on the FILELIST screen. Move the cursor to that line, and press PF11.

First we are going to practice adding lines to this file. Then we will show you how to take out lines. Your file looks like this:
 PICNIC   INGREDTS A1  F 80  Trunc=80 Size=3 Line=0 Col=1 Alt=0

===== * * * Top of File * * *
      |...+....1....+....2....+....3....+....4....+....5....+....6....+....7...
===== A LOAF OF BREAD
===== A JUG OF WINE
===== THOU
===== * * * End of File * * *

                                                            X E D I T  1 File
You decide that a loaf of bread, while nourishing, is not all that appetizing by itself. You want to include some ham, adding it after the bread entry. Move the cursor to the prefix area of the line containing A LOAF OF BREAD, and enter an a prefix command, like this:
a==== A LOAF OF BREAD
In the blank line, type:
===== ham
The ham sounds so good that you decide to pack a few other things to go with it. You want to add them to your list after the line reading ham. To add six more items, each on a separate line, you will need six extra lines. The cursor is at the end of the ham entry. Move it to the prefix area of that line, and enter the prefix command to add six blank lines, like this:
6a=== ham
Type
===== cheese
===== hot dogs
===== mustard
===== pickles
===== olives
===== potato chips

You have just remembered that there are also some unpleasant things found at picnics. You want to add them after the last line of the file. Press Enter to move the cursor to the large arrow command line.

Then enter:

====> b (short for BOTTOM)

Enter:

====> i (short for INPUT)

Type these lines:
warm orange soda
hot iced tea
ants
sunburn

Looking at the list, you decide that two of the most important ingredients for a picnic are missing. You want to add them at the top of the list, before A LOAF OF BREAD. You are going to enter a command, so you must get out of input mode and back into edit mode. (Remember, you cannot enter commands from the command line in input mode.) Press Enter twice to re-enter edit mode.

Enter:
====> top
Enter 2a in the prefix area of the Top of File line. Then type:
===== friendly companions
===== pleasant surroundings

Now you have all the ingredients you need for a perfect picnic. But wait, you just got a phone call. It seems that Thou cannot come to the picnic after all. Also, you learn that the picnic area where you plan to go will not allow the consumption of wine. To make your file up to date, you must delete some lines. To learn how, read on.
