Selecting Detailed Data

Many of the available performance displays allow easy selection of more detailed data for one specific user, or one specific I/O device. An information message line near the bottom of the screen will inform you whenever this is the case.

For example:
  • Select the 'User resource usage' screen again (by number, with the cursor, or using the short-path command user on the command line).
  • Move the cursor to the userid of an active virtual machine (note that the entries for machines with some activity are highlighted) where you would like to see more detailed information and press ENTER.

You should see the 'User resource details' screen with a lot of detailed information for the selected user. Note especially the data on the virtual I/O configuration of the selected machine. This part can be very helpful to tell you the target of all the I/O activity of a user with a suspected I/O problem.

This screen will be updated automatically in 60-second intervals, but you can force more frequent updates by pressing the ENTER-key. Press ENTER in intervals of a few seconds and note how the load figures change.

  • Assume that one specific minidisk is heavily loaded, and that you want more information on the physical disk pack where it is located: Move the cursor to that minidisk and press ENTER.

You should see the 'I/O device details' screen for the disk pack where the selected minidisk is located.

  • You can force updates manually for this screen. Press ENTER in intervals of a few seconds and note how the load values change.
  • Assume that you find a heavily loaded minidisk on this pack (not necessarily owned by the user we started with), and that one user is shown to be responsible for most of the load. Move the cursor to that userid and press ENTER.

You should see the 'User resource details' screen for the selected user.
