Usage Notes

  1. In order to use this command correctly, you need to be aware of the factors that affect your console mode:
    1. You can enter the TERMINAL SYS3270 command to control whether your virtual machine console emulates an integrated 3270 device.
    2. From the virtual machine's perspective, issuing SYS3270 ON has the same effect as opening the Integrated 3270 window on the Hardware Management Console.
    3. From the virtual machine's perspective, issuing SYS3270 OFF has the same effect as closing the Integrated 3270 window on the Hardware Management Console.
    4. When you specify SYS3270 ON, the real terminal must be a 3270 device.
    5. SYS3270 ON is incompatible with 3270 console mode, which is enabled using CONMODE 3270.
    6. The guest operating system must not use the virtual console as a conventional I/O device, despite the fact that it has a virtual device number and subchannel identifier. The real integrated 3270 device does not have these characteristics, so the guest must behave as though they do not exist. For example, the device may need to be logically varied offline before its mode is changed to SYS3270 ON. Otherwise, device behavior may be unpredictable.
  2. Use QUERY TERMINAL to determine if the virtual console is emulating a 3270 device. The response section of the query will display SYS3270 ON or SYS3270 OFF.
