Purpose

Use SET MSG to control whether the MESSAGE command messages are to be received at your display. The initial setting for MSG is installation dependent and is defined in the system configuration file.

Operands

ON
OFF
controls the display of messages. If you specify ON, the messages are displayed. If you specify OFF, no messages are displayed.
IUCV
specifies that messages are to be passed to the virtual machine through IUCV if a connection to the message system service exists. If messages are passed through IUCV, they are not placed in the virtual console spool file. If no IUCV connection exists, messages are handled as if SET MSG ON had been issued.

  1. Start of changeWhen IUCV is SET for CPCONIO, EMSG, IMSG, MSG, SMSG, VMCONIO, or WNG and you have a secondary user defined, messages will be delivered to the secondary user under certain conditions, as described under TERMINAL PRECEDENCE. End of change
