QUERY CAPABILITY
Authorization
Privilege Class: A, B, C, E
Purpose
Use the QUERY CAPABILITY command to determine the capability values of the processors in the configuration. A processor’s capability value indicates its capability relative to that of other CPU models. For more information on CPU capability, see z/Architecture Principles of Operation.
Responses
Response 1:
CAPABILITY: PRIMARY pppppppp SECONDARY ssssssss [NOMINAL nnnnnnnn]
[CAPACITY-ADJUSTMENT INDICATION cai CAPACITY-CHANGE REASON ccr]
[capacity_change_explanation]
- pppppppp
- is the capability of a primary CPU in the configuration. See usage note 1.
- ssssssss
- is the capability of a secondary CPU in the configuration. See usage note 1.
- nnnnnnnn
- is the nominal CPU capability for the configuration. This value is displayed only if it is nonzero. See usage note 1.
- cai
- is the capacity-adjustment indication. This decimal value is in the range 1 - 100 and represents the aggregate position of model-dependent controls. When the value is zero, the response line is not displayed. The source of the value is Store System Information (STSI) 1.1.1.
- ccr
- is the capacity-change reason, which explains why the capacity change occurred. This value is the ccr value returned by STSI 1.1.1. When the cai value is zero, this response line is not displayed.
- capacity_change_explanation
- is an explanation of the cai and ccr values.
When the cai value is zero, this response line is not displayed. The text
of the response will be one of the following:
- RUNNING AT NOMINAL CAPACITY.
- RUNNING WITH REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO A MANUAL CONTROL SETTING.
- For example, static power savings mode.
- RUNNING WITH REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO A MACHINE EXCEPTION CONDITION.
- For example, a cooling problem.
- RUNNING WITH REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO A MACHINE NON-EXCEPTION CONDITION.
- For example, a firmware update.
- RUNNING WITH REDUCED CAPACITY DUE TO AN EXTERNAL EXCEPTION CONDITION.
- For example, ambient temperature exceeded the specified maximum.
- MACHINE CAPACITY INDICATORS ARE IN AN UNEXPECTED STATE.
- The ccr value is not recognized.
- MACHINE CAPACITY IS IN TRANSITION BETWEEN STATES.
- A change to one or more machine capacity-related values is expected to occur soon.
Usage Notes
- The primary, secondary, and nominal capability values returned in the response can
be integers or decimal fractions (such as, 5.125678). In some cases the value might be too large or
too small to display, in which case the term
OVERFLOW
orUNDERFLO
will be displayed.
