Process flow
The overall flow for name-value pair collection and
runtime metrics collection shows how name-value pair collection collects resource usage information and
runtime metrics collection processes the collected
information and writes the processed data to a relational database. You can use an analysis package
to filter and view the results.

- Run name-value pair collection on your z/TPF system to collect resource usage information. The collected information is written to a tape. For more information, see Name-value pair collection.
- Convert the name-value pair collection tape to a binary file by entering the pptapetofile command on your Linux® on IBM Z.
- Use FTP to transfer the binary file to the collection group directory that you create for running runtime metrics collection. For more information, see Starting the tpfrtmc offline utility and Running runtime metrics collection for ZCNVP.
- Runtime metrics collection processes the binary file and saves the processed data to a relational database.
- Use an analysis package, for example, an SQL dashboard to process and visualize the results. For more information, see Sample runtime metrics collection procedures and SQL dashboard.
- View the analyzed results by using your web browser.
