Required Linux software

Ensure that you have the correct level of software for your Linux® on IBM Z® environment.

Small programming enhancements (SPEs) that are shipped with some product updates might require functions from a specific assembler, compiler, or system level. When this occurs, previous releases of the assembler, compiler, or system are not supported for that update.

The following information summarizes the assembler, compiler, and system levels that IBM uses for each update. IBM builds and tests the code that is shipped with only the corresponding assembler, compiler, and system levels; therefore, it is important that you stay current with these software levels for each product update to avoid problems. However, unless it is explicitly noted that a particular software level is required for an update or your installation requires a specific software update, you are not required to use the specified assembler, compiler, and system level for that update level.
Note: If a specific level of the assembler, compiler, or system is required for a particular APAR, that information is provided in the APEDIT.
