Programs and files

RAVEN has several components:
  • Mainline program (AUTO.REX)
  • Mainline-to-variation interface file (INCLUDE.VAR)
  • Optional user subroutine file (*.SUB)
  • Variation files (<variation name>.VAR).

See the RAVEN Programmer's Guide for more information about the RAVEN structure.

In addition, there is a simple command file called AUTOSTRT.REX that is used to start the RAVEN mainline program (AUTO.REX), and a simple command file called AUTO.REX that is used to communicate with the active RAVENmainline program. This program can be used at any time.

All programs are written in REXX for ease of maintenance. This ease of maintenance is a trade-off with performance. Because of this, during periods of heavy host output, the RAVEN mainline program and its variations may lag slightly behind.

Note: If you cannot determine the cause of a problem, contact your IBM® service representative. However, do not modify the following files:
  • AUTO.REX
  • AUTOCOMM.REX
  • AUTOSTRT.REX
  • INCLUDE.VAR
  • MULT.VAR
  • TDRV.VAR
  • MTRP.VAR
  • CMDFILE.VAR.

If one or more of these files are modified, IBM will be unable to debug a problem that arises.

If one of these files is in error, IBM will make the necessary changes and send you a replacement file.
