Running a pack function

With the CRUISE pack function, you can pack the data structures to reduce DASD usage.

Before you begin

To run a CRUISE pack function, ensure that a parameter table with appropriate values is set up.

Procedure

  1. Enter the ZFCRU START command to verify and display the parameter table values.
In the following example, parameter table values are verified and displayed for TABLE1.
    User: WP/ZFCRU START-TABLE1

    System: FCRU0149I 16.33.15 CPUB TABLE -TABLE1- ACTIVATED
            CSMP0097I 16.33.15 CPU-B SS-WP SSU-WP1 IS-01
            FCRU0000I 16.33.15 PARAMETER TABLE DISPLAY FOR TABLE1
              FUNCTION PAC
USABLE ECB START VALUE 40 PCT
              I-STREAM AFFINITY BALANCE
              BUILD STATISTICS YES
              NUMBER OF PRINT MESSAGES ALL
              NUMBER OF LOG MESSAGES ALL
              RESTORE OPTION REBUILD/NORELEASE/NOFIXDIRECT
              SSU NAMES CURRENT
              INCLUDE SSU COMMON FILES YES
              MESSAGE AFTER EVERY ID YES
              AUTOMATIC PAUSE YES
              REFERENCE ID C090 - C099
FCRU0000I 10.27.18 REPEAT ENTRY TO START CRUISE

After the verification, the parameter table is in active state.
  2. If the parameter table values pass verification, enter the ZFCRU START command again to start the pack function.
In the following example, the pack function is started for parameter table TABLE1.
    User: ZFCRU START-TABLE1

    System: FCRU0100I 10.27.19 CPUB TABLE -TABLE1-
                               FUNCTION-PAC STARTED
            CSMP0097I 10.27.19 CPU-B SS-BSS SSU-HPN IS-01
            FCRU0128I 10.27.28 CPUB 00016649 RECORDS FOUND
                               00011855 FILES PACKED

            FCRU0132I 10.27.28 CPUB TABLE -TABLE1-
                               FUNCTION-PAC COMPLETED
                               00000000 ERRORS DETECTED

The parameter table is in running state during CRUISE pack function processing. When the CRUISE function is completed, the parameter table is in stopped state.
