Detecting and restarting a stopped channel

IBM Service Management Unite can detect and restore service for a stopped channel.

The consolidated event viewer displays monitoring and automation exception events, filtered by severity and customized for your area of support. In this scenario, the top unacknowledged event is a warning for a group resource that is owned by the MQ queue manager Q7G4. The user right-clicks on the event and selects View MQ Queue Manager Details for Q7G4.

The MQ Queue Manager Details page displays key performance and status metrics for resources that are owned by queue manager Q7G4. The performance graphs and tables show that channel EAP.S1.Q7G4.TO.Q7G1 is not running.

The user selects the row that represents that channel from the Channel Not Running table and right-clicks on the row to select Isolate Problem. In the Problem Isolation - Current Channel Not Running page, a list of problems and solutions are listed under the Suggested Actions view. One of the problems listed is “The channel is in stopped status”. From the data on the page, the user can confirm that the channel status is “stopped”. The recommended solution is to start the channel again.

From the Queue Manager Events table, the user can select the Execute Command action to open the Execute Command page. The user enters the command >Q7G4 START CHANNEL(EAP.S1.Q7G4.TO.Q7G1) in the Command field and clicks Go. The command results returned on the page indicate that the channel was started successfully.
