Configuring OMEGAMON and NetView agents
IBM Z® Service Management Suite includes agents for OMEGAMON® and NetView.
IBM OMEGAMON includes agents that monitor and manage system and network applications. The agents track the availability and performance of systems and resources in your enterprise.
The IBM Z NetView Enterprise Management Agent (NetView Agent) provides information about network resources and outages, as well as trends in your network through the use of historical data. You can issue NetView, VTAM®, and z/OS® commands directly from the portal to provide instant display and troubleshooting capabilities.
Installation and configuration process
- Decide which agents to install.
- For a CBPDO order, install the NetView agent into the
IBM®
Tivoli® Monitoring environment.
For SMP/E installation information, see the product program directories.
- Enable the self-describing agent feature (SDA) support for SDA-packaged agents. Tip: By default, SDA is disabled in the monitoring agents, the hub monitoring servers and the remote monitoring servers. You must perform z/OS UNIX System Services system preparation set-up tasks to create the z/OS UNIX file system before you can enable SDA. For more information, see Self-describing agent feature.
- Use Monitoring Configuration Manager (Configuration Manager) or Parameter Generator (PARMGEN) to
configure the agents. You must use the same configuration tool that was used when configuring Tivoli Management Services.
For more information about using Configuration Manager or PARMGEN, see Configuring. For more information about configuring the NetView agent, see Installation: Configuring the NetView Enterprise Management Agent.
