Configuring IBM Z NetView

If you used the configuration assistant tool to configure IBM Z® System Automation, the basic IBM Z NetView® configuration steps were completed by the tool.

The following NetView functions were configured:
  • Subsystem Interface (SSI)
  • Event/Automation Service
  • NetView log (DSILOGP/DSILOGS)
  • NetView trace (DSITRCP/DSITRCS)
  • Save and Restore function (DSISVRT)
  • System Automation tower (SA)
To configure additional NetView functions, see IBM Z NetView Installation: Getting Started (NetView Functions and Tasks).

Configuring without using the configuration assistant tool

If you did not use the configuration assistant tool to configure IBM Z System Automation, then the following tasks are required to configure a basic NetView installation:
  1. Update SYS1.PARMLIB members.
  2. Customize and run sample JCL jobs to install the NetView component.
  3. Update SYS1.PROCLIB members.
  4. Prepare VTAM® system definitions.
  5. Customize DSIPARM members.
The CNMSTYLE member is read by the NetView component at initialization and controls many customizable properties of NetView . The sample CNMSTYLE member contains descriptive comments about the types of statements that are included in the member.
Enabling System Automation: To enable processing for the System Automation component, uncomment the SA tower. When the SA tower is enabled, System Automation code will be invoked during NetView initialization to obtain storage, control blocks, and perform other initialization processing.
  6. Start NetView and verify your installation.

For information on installing and configuring the NetView product, see IBM Z NetView Installation: Getting Started.

IBM Z System Automation integration notes

IBM Z System Automation uses many of the base services that are provided by NetView:

  • The CNMCMD member in the DSIPARM data set contains definitions for NetView and System Automation commands.
  • The DSIOPF member in the DSIPARM data set contains definitions for NetView and System Automation operator definitions.
  • NetView operator logon profiles obtain console IDs that are used by the System Automation component.
  • The DSIAUTB member in the DSIPARM data set contains a list of command lists that can bypass authorization.
  • If the System Automation component is active, you can launch to System Automation operations directly from the NetView Main Menu (Figure 1).
