Using a property file to modify plug-ins

To use a property file to modify a plug-in that you previously added to z/OSMF, modify the property file for the plug-in, and use the Import action to import the modified file. You can only modify plug-ins that were added using the Import Manager task.

Procedure

To use a property file to modify an existing plug-in, complete the steps that follow:

  1. Open the property file that you used to add the plug-in to z/OSMF.
  2. Modify the plug-in properties, as needed. Do not modify the plug-in ID because z/OSMF uses the ID to identify the plug-in to be modified. If you modify the ID, z/OSMF assumes that you are adding a new plug-in.
  3. Perform one or more of the following actions to modify the tasks included in the plug-in:
    • Modify the properties of an existing task, as needed. Do not modify the task ID because z/OSMF uses the ID to identify the task to be modified. If you modify the ID, z/OSMF assumes that you are adding a new task.
    • Add one or more task definitions. Remember to enumerate each task definition, and to specify the definitions in numeric order.
    • Delete one or more task definitions to remove the tasks from z/OSMF. Remember to re-enumerate the remaining task definitions, as needed. For example, if the property file contains three task definitions and you delete the second definition, you must change the enumeration for the third task from three to two.
  4. Save the property file.
  5. Import the property file. To do so, complete the following steps:
    1. In the z/OSMF navigation area, expand the z/OSMF Administration category and select Import Manager.
    2. On the Import tab on the Import Manager page, specify the full path and name of the property file, and click Import.

Results

When you import the property file, z/OSMF overwrites the existing plug-in, and adds the modified plug-in. If the add is successful, the tasks included in the modified plug-in are listed in the z/OSMF navigation area under the specified category.

If z/OSMF finds any errors in the property file, neither the existing plug-in nor any of its tasks will be modified. In which case, you must resolve the errors and import the property file again.
