Managing system resources
You can use the System Status page in the System Status task to view a list of the systems that are defined to z/OSMF, to add new systems to be monitored, and to manage existing system definitions.
- z/OS® sysplexes: z/OSMF can retrieve performance data for the z/OS sysplexes in your installation that have an active RMF Distributed Data Server (DDS). The DDS is a single data server on one system in the z/OS sysplex that gathers data from the RMF Monitor III distributed on each system in the sysplex. Thus, when z/OSMF connects to the active DDS in a sysplex, it obtains data for all of the images in the z/OS sysplex that have an active and synchronized RMF Monitor III data gatherer.
- AIX® system complexes (IBM®Power Systems), Windows system complexes (System x), and Linux® system complexes (z Systems® and System x): z/OSMF can retrieve performance data from an RMF Cross Platform Distributed Data Server on a z/OS system that uses CIM servers to gather data from AIX system complexes, Linux system complexes, or Windows system complexes.
The resources defined to z/OSMF are listed in the Resources table. The table can contain a maximum of 100 resource entries, which can only be viewed or modified by you. For a description of the columns and actions in the table, see Columns in the Resources table or Actions for resource entries.
By default, z/OSMF supplies the LOCALPLEX resource entry and specifies an asterisk (*) for its host name. z/OSMF uses this resource entry to detect and connect to the DDS that is running in the z/OSMF host sysplex.
The Resources table refreshes automatically every 60 seconds. To refresh it manually, click Refresh.
Columns in the Resources table
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Resource | Name of the resource to be monitored. |
| System Type | Type of resource to be monitored. One of the
following values is displayed:
For target system type specification, see help topic Add and Modify Entry pages. |
| Connectivity | Indicates whether z/OSMF is
connected to the DDS (or the Linux data
gatherer) in the specified sysplex, system complex, or image. The Connectivity column
can have one of the following values:
|
| Performance Index Status | Indicates whether all or some of the service
class periods are achieving, exceeding, or missing their goal. The
status column can have one of the following values:
This column applies to z/OS sysplex entries only. A value is displayed only when z/OSMF can connect to the DDS in a sysplex and retrieve data. To view additional details about the sysplex performance index, click the status link or select from the Actions menu. This capability is provided only if the event type and handler needed to process the request are available. For more details, see your z/OSMF administrator. |
| Related Service Definition | Name of the WLM service definition that contains
the active service policy. This column applies to z/OS sysplex entries only. A value is displayed
only when z/OSMF can
connect to the DDS in a sysplex and retrieve data. To view the active WLM service definition, click the name link or select from the Actions menu. This capability is provided only if the event type and handler needed to process the request are available. For more details, see your z/OSMF administrator. |
| Active WLM Policy | Name of the service policy that WLM is using
to manage the workload. This column applies to z/OS sysplex entries only. A value is displayed
only when z/OSMF can
connect to the DDS in a sysplex and retrieve data. To view the active WLM service policy, click the name link or select from the Actions menu. This capability is provided only if the event type and handler needed to process the request are available. For more details, see your z/OSMF administrator. |
| Activity | Indicates the latest activity. Being Modified indicates that the system resource is being modified and is locked by another user. |
Actions for resource entries
- Targeted actions. Actions that apply to the selected resource entry. To use a targeted action, you must select a resource entry.
- General actions. Actions that apply to resource entries. No selection is required.
- Table actions. Lists actions that apply to the entire table. No selection is required.
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Modify Entry | Modify and view the properties of the selected resource entry. |
| Remove Entry | Remove the selected resource entry from the Resources table. Doing so also removes the resource from the possible resources that can be monitored in the Resource Monitoring task. |
| View | View the following information about the selected z/OS sysplex:
These actions are enabled only if the event type and handler needed to process the request are available. For more details, see your z/OSMF administrator. |
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Add Entry | Add a new resource entry. Use this action to define the resources to be monitored by the Resource Monitoring task. |
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Select All | Select all of the rows in the table. |
| Deselect All | Deselect all of the selected rows in the table. |
| Configure Columns | Select the columns to display in the table, specify the order of those columns, and designate which columns should be fixed in position when the table is scrolled horizontally. |
| Hide Filter Row | Remove the filter row from view. This action is listed only when the filter row is displayed in the table. |
| Show Filter Row | Display the filter row. This action is listed only when the filter row is not displayed in the table. |
| Clear Sorts | Clear the sort from all of the columns in the table. This action is disabled if no sorting is specified in the table. |
