Creating a new data set
Before you can edit a new sequential data set, you must allocate
space for it. When you specify an empty sequential data set or nonexistent
member of a partitioned data set, the first edit display contains
several empty lines between the Top of Data and Bottom
of Data message lines (Figure 1).
The editor replaces the quote marks on the left of the panel with
sequence numbers when you type information on the lines.
See Creating and replacing data and Word processing for more information on using the editor to create data.
