Using the utility to create an I/O subsystem

The utility guides you through the following steps:

  1. Set Controller Attributes and Subsystem Type: Select a controller or a controller's physical description file (PDF). You can define a label prefix for the controller, and, if applicable, the number of controllers within the I/O subsystem.
  2. Add control units: Attributes for control units consist of type, number, subsystem identifier (SSID), offset between subsequent CU numbers, serial CU number, and description.
  3. Connect control units: Connect control units to controllers (and their segments).
  4. Define strings: Select a string PDF (based on a selected type). Set the following attributes: number of devices inside string, starting device number, offset between subsequent device numbers, label prefix, and description.
  5. Connect string interfaces: Connect string interfaces and controller device interfaces. Selectable interfaces are based on the settings made in steps 1 and 4.
  6. Connect strings: Connect strings and control units. Selectable objects are based on the settings made in steps 3 and 5.
