Utilities

HCM offers several utilities for performing time-consuming configuration tasks, which you can invoke from the Utilities menu. These utilities support you in making complex configuration changes without violating any logical definitions that are valid in your configuration. They are wizards that guide you through the various functions. At the end, you see a summary of your changes where you can accept or discard them. You can also save the summary to a file. These utilities are described in the following sections of this chapter:

Besides these utilities that assist you in configuration tasks, you can use further utilities for special purposes:

  • To assign physical channel identifiers (PCHIDs) to logical CHPIDs, use the CHPID Mapping Tool Support (described in Using the CHPID Mapping Tool Support utility).
  • To assign world-wide port names to the FCP device paths, use the WWPN Prediction Tool Support (described in Using the WWPN Prediction Tool Support).
  • To create an IOCP input file or an I/O configurations file by extracting data from the currently accessed IODF for later migration into a different target IODF, you can use the Export IOCP or I/O Configuration statements utility (described in Exporting IOCP or I/O configuration statements)
  • To check configuration files for structural consistency, use the Configuration file checker (described in Checking a configuration).
  • To create an exported MCF and send it to IBM Support for MCF problem diagnosis, select Exporting Master Configuration File (described in Exporting an MCF).
  • To examine performance data of objects in your active sysplex, and to discover potential bottlenecks, select menu item Browse Performance Data… (described in Browsing performance data).
  • To migrate I/O configuration statements from an existing input file into a selected work IODF, use the Import I/O Configuration Statements dialog (described in Importing I/O configuration statements).

You invoke all available utilities described in this chapter from the Utilities menu, except for the following ones:

  • Invoke the Create I/O Subsystem utility from the I/O Subsystem… pull-down in the Create menu bar choice.
  • Invoke the Copy I/O Subsystem and Edit I/O Subsystem utilities from a controller's context menu.
  • Invoke the Import I/O Configuration Statements dialog by pressing the Import… button in the Cfg. Statements section from the IODFs dialog (Figure 2).
