Messages

Messages are used to communicate that an operation is complete, that an error has occurred, or to warn you that an error or an unexpected result might occur. This topic describes the different types of messages.

Inline messages

An inline message is a message that is displayed in a messages container below the page or tab title. A messages container is displayed only if an inline message is available for the current view. Figure 1 depicts the layout of the messages container.

The messages container:

  • Lists the messages in ascending order according to the date and time the message was displayed.
  • Indicates the number of error, warning, and information messages included in the container.
  • Alerts you that a new message occurred by changing the number for the message type to bold.
  • Allows you to expand and collapse the container so that you can maximize the vertical space on a page.
  • Allows you to close all the messages simultaneously. Messages that cannot be closed remain displayed.

The container can hold a maximum of 500 messages. When the maximum is reached, z/OSMF deletes the oldest messages to make room for new messages. Messages that cannot be closed are not deleted.
